Abacus golf shorts review

With summer finally making an appearance in the UK, what better time to stock up on your golf shorts selection?

Abacus Sportswear has launched its new range of shorts which, like everything else the premium outdoor apparel brand does, is designed to help you play and look your best.

Let’s find out how they plan to do that…

The First Look

It’s really hard to disassociate wearing shorts to play golf with those images of fuddy duddy beige chino style slacks with long socks. No thank you. We’ll wear trousers, please. But these days brands – particularly Abacus – are far more fashion conscious.

There are three models in this range – the eye-catching Huntingdale in the men’s range, the stylish Camargo and smarter Elite City in the women’s range, and the unisex Kildare offering.

And, we think you’ll agree, they look fantastic.

The Tech

Abacus says its SS24 shorts collection is made “using the same technological features found in its best-selling range of trousers, including four-way stretch, the use of breathable and lightweight fabrics, and golf-specific design touches” which “enables golfers to focus on their game while also delivering maximum comfort and an effortlessly stylish look”.

The men’s Huntingdale range, which comes in a choice of nine vibrant colours – Lagoon, Stone, Hazy Blue, Sunset Red, Grey Melange, Fairway Green, Hibiscus, Coral and Mandarin – are made from a polyester/elastane material mix which is lightweight, breathable, and offers four-way stretch for ultimate comfort. They also feature two easy-access pockets at the front and back, while the waistband offers built-in stretch for a tailored fit, a pop button closure, zippered fly, and multiple belt loops for a co-ordinated look.

In the women’s range, the Camargo shorts are available in classic black and navy and are made of a very soft, lightweight, four-way stretch polyester/elastane fabric mix that makes them perfect for summer-time golf as well as general leisure wear. The flattering fabric also benefits from Drycool technology and has a built-in wicking effect, ensuring wearers remain cool when the temperature is dialled up a notch. Designed to sit on the mid-waist, with the leg length sitting two-thirds of the way down the thigh, the Camargo shorts boast two front slant pockets and one back pocket that features a small Abacus logo.

Also for women are the sharper, smarter Elite City range, which boast a stylish, fitted silhouette. Offered in classic black or white, they feature a high waist and a leg length that sits two-thirds of the way down the thigh. Made from a super stretchy polyamide/spandex material that guarantees supreme comfort throughout the round, they also feature Drycool technology ensuring the wearer always feels cool. Functional design elements include a front zipper fly with a pop button waistband closure, two front and two back pockets – the right back pocket also has a silicon tape to keep the score card in place and belt loops around the waist.

The unisex Kildare range are made from a thin, lightweight woven polyester/spandex material that offers complete freedom of movement through its four-way stretch properties. Although shorts, by their very nature, will help keep the wearer cool, this model takes coolness to new levels thanks to its breathable design, with Abacus’s unique DryCool technology wicking moisture away and enabling air to circulate freely. Suitable for wearing on and off the golf course, the fashion-forward Kildare is designed to sit just above the knee and boasts two angled front pockets for easy access to golfing essentials such as tees, ball markers and a pencil, and two back pockets for storing scorecards and yardage books. They also feature a zippered fly and a button-closure waistband which offers built-in stretch for ensuring a perfect fit, along with belt loops. The Kildare is available for men in a classic navy or clam white colour option, and navy and black for ladies.
