Situated between Glasgow and Edinburgh, West Lothian is within touching distance for the vast majority of visitors to Scotland.
It lies on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth and, like just about every other part of the country, incorporates a number of fantastic golf courses.
Arguably the pick of the bunch is Bathgate, not least because of its unique connection to the Ryder Cup. This unassuming, James Braid-designed track is tree-lined and mainly flat but has the distinction of having produced two Ryder Cup captains in Eric Brown and Bernard Gallacher, as well as a third Ryder Cup star, Bernard’s nephew Stephen Gallacher.
Deer Park is also well worth a look. Located close to Livingston, it has staged a number of high-profile tournaments down the years.
Greenburn and Harburn are also more than deserving of your attention, whilst Uphall, Pumpherston and the eponoymous West Lothian Golf Club are great fun, too.
Special mention must also be made of Kingsfield. Its nine-hole course is terrific but that’s only part of its story. It is also home to an exceptional, understated practice facility which is regularly used by several of Scotland’s finest players, including multiple DP World Tour players.
